"Seoul Shootouts" This Month in November

This month, we’re in Jongno reinterpreting Joseon-era painter Shin Yun-bok’s sultry masterworks 월하정인(月下情人) / “Lovers Under the Moon” and 월야밀회(月夜密會)/ “Secret Moonlight Meeting“.

월하정인(月下情人) / “Lovers Under the Moon” by Shin yun-bok, late 19th-century.

월야밀회(月夜密會)/ “Secret Moonlight Meeting“ by Shin Yun-bok, late 19th-century.

The goal here is to not engage is a slavishly “accurate” replication of these paintings in real life, but rather a contextualized, culturally appropriate depiction of furtive, romantic moves in the night. Since no one in 2023 wears hanbok as everyday wear, our shoot will eschew traditional dress and replicate them in attire and comportment apropos of 21st-century star-crossed lovers meeting in the night.

The concept will include models dressed in modern clothes, such as a man in a suit and women dressed in dresses and heels. The “modern girl” is the leitmotif here, and our modern attire will have retro vibes that may harken back to the 1920s, especially since the retro street of ikseon-dong is an inspiration here; indeed, heels and dresses, along with suits, were and are worn both in the 1920s and the 2020s.

Looking for crew to help us in the shoot, especially in the taking of BTS and b-roll of the shooting. We’ll be meeting up on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend around here:

We will mix this kind of ambient lighting/strobe exposure (below) with killer models in just the right, retro spot of town to create killer content that you just might want to be a part of. As we gear up for November’s episode in Jongno, we can offer to put you in the credits for that YouTube episode as well.

Hangangdaero backalleys, August, 2021.

So, please pitch in and help out as we make this artistic endeavor happen. This and many other creative shoots like it will happen all around Seoul, week after week, month after month. Chase us down at @Seoul Street Studios !!!
